CA-NV AWWA Resource Guide 2016

Welcome to 2016! As an active member of AWWA, I am sure you will find this copy of the California-Nevada Section’s 2016 Resource Guide extremely useful. It’s loaded with information that will help you to reach out to other waterworks professionals with similar skills and interests. You will want to keep this guide close at hand so that you always have access to your peers. 6 CA-NV AWWA RESOURCE GUIDE 2016 One of the best justifications for becoming involved in AWWA, is how it expands your network of waterworks professionals. Many agencies forget the importance of having a professional network until there are system challenges or problems that can’t be resolved from within. Are you and your agency fully prepared to respond to emergencies? Chances are good that no matter how prepared you feel you are today, by mid-year you’ll be confronted with at least a dozen opportunities to assist, or be assisted by, an industry peer. The CA-NV Section’s Resource Guide is where you can find contact information for members, including manufacturers and service providers, that are active within the Section. The Guide can also be useful for students and young professionals (YP’s) ready to build a professional network. I recommend that YP’s get involved by joining committees. Committees are a great place to meet others with a great deal of experience and who share similar interests. Committee members play a critical role in developing our technical programs by establishing topics, and finding experts who are interested in doing presentations. I remember walking into one of my first CA-NV AWWA committee meetings. It was intimidating! Everyone seemed so knowledgeable. It didn’t take me long to realize that these were the expert resources that would take my career to the next level. I relied on them frequently. I also discovered that I had much to contribute as well. In addition to technical committee contacts, the guide provides information for another 20 programs that help organize everything the Section does: certifications, educational programs, competitions, conferences, membership, awards, publications, philanthropy, and leadership. The Resource Guide was put together to provide all of us the tools we need to communicate with each other more effectively. I would like to thank all of you for being a part of this great network. Here’s to an exciting and productive 2015. Kirk Medina CA-NV AWWA Section Chair MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR Kirk Medina
