Weddings Elsewhere - Fall 2014

Plan Ahead to Get Group Rates Most resorts offer couples having a wedding a number of rooms that are included in a group rate. Sometimes, the amount of rooms they will hold at this rate is limited, so make sure you book your stay as soon as you decide to go! The same goes for airfare; book it when you see a great price or to get a group discount. Arrive a Day Early Plan to arrive at least the day before the first event you are expected to attend, often the rehearsal dinner. If there are issues with your flight being de-layed, you still have time to get to the event. Travel delays are never fun, but this will eliminate some of the stress if you aren’t worried about missing the wedding 38 Weddings Elsewhere | FALL 2014 Bringing Your Family You may get invited to an adults-only wedding that is in a family friendly location. Limited funds and days off work may mean you can only do one or the other, unless you combine them! If you want to plan your annual family vacation around the wedding, let the couple know your children/friends/etc. will be traveling with you but that you have made arrange-ments for them during the wedding events. Please do not expect the couple to host your added guests. Weddings are already expensive enough! Honeymoon for the Newlyweds The couple may choose to stay at the wedding location for their honeymoon or travel to another resort/location. If they choose to stay at the resort where most of the guests are staying, just keep in mind they are on their honeymoon! Let them take the lead on when they want to be social with guests and when they would prefer time to enjoy their newly married status!
