David Pedersen, 40, has been named General Manager, Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD). Previously Petersen served as Executive Director of Operations at Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD), where he implemented operational efficiency measures that helped achieve the lowest service rates among surrounding communities. Before IRWD, Pederson held managerial positions in Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. Phil Holderness Retires. Former CA-NV AWWA Chair Phil Holderness has retired after 20 years as a water treatment operator and plant superintendent at Kern County Water Agency’s (KCWA) Henry C. Garnett Water Purification Plant. Holderness also served as General Manager, McFarland Mutual Water Company and Assistant Manager, then General Manager at East Niles Community Services District. He represented KCWA at the CA-NV Section beginning in 2000 and received the 2006 Don Kaiser Section Volunteer of the Year Award, the 2007 George A. Elliot Award for outstanding service and the 2010 George W. Fuller Award for distinguished service. He has served on the Valley Counties Water Association as president from 2000-2005 and as secretary/treasurer from 2006 to the present and on a number of committees for the California Department of Public Health and the Association of California Water Agencies. Congratulations, Phil. Hsueh at Santa Clara Valley Valley. District 5 representative Nai Hsueh has been elected chair of the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) and District 6 Director Tony Estremera Vice Chair. “My goal is to work with my fellow board members to help make the district a regional model for an ethical, transparent and effective organization,” said Hsueh, who acknowledged the board’s successes with the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Conservation Plan, capital projects, and fluoridation. David Kubel New Tesco Director of Engineering. Tesco Controls, Inc. has announced that David Kubel, P.E. will be its new Director of Engineering. Kubel joined Tesco from Black & Veatch, where he was the Instrumentation and Controls Chief Engineer in the water division, and says he’s glad to be back at Tesco, where he was previously responsible for project and customerrelated issues. Remleh Scherzinger GM at Nevada Irrigation District. The Nevada Irrigation District (NID) has selected Remleh Scherzinger to succeed longtime GM Ron Nelson. Scherzinger previously served as utilities engineering manager for the City of Petaluma, as an engineer with the Sonoma County Water Agency and spent two years with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MET). Scherziner is a licensed civil engineer who also holds state certifications in water treatment and distribution. Mesa Water Adopts New Name, Logo. The former Costa Mesa County Water District began 2013 with a new name and logo after a survey  found that less than 30 percent of respondents knew who provided their tap water. With One Look, One Voice Mesa Water hopes to engage its publics and inspire water- and resource-preserving behavior for current and future sustainability. S
