Message From the Chair
I am very pleased to present the California-Nevada AWWA 2017
Resource Guide. I hope you will find the contents both useful and
relevant throughout the year. In addition to the exceptional water
industry resources you will find in this guide, you will also find information
about our Section and how we are governed. Take a look at
the new organization chart for the California-Nevada Section of the
American Water Works Association and you will see that the restructuring
of the Section affords many new opportunities for volunteers
to get involved.
Inside this guide you will find practical information for products and
services often used in the water industry. It provides you with quick access
to a wealth of clear and practical information that I am confident
will help you to leverage the best possible value from your AWWA Section
membership. From the industry products and services resource
provider information to the invaluable contact list for your fellow CANV
AWWA water professionals; I am sure you will find yourself reaching
for this guide many times throughout the year. You can even access
the guide on-the-go through your smartphone by accessing the
Section website ca-nv-awwa.org.
Have a technical question and not sure who to contact? Inside you
will find current contact information for all of our committee chairs.
They can be a great resource to you and help you find the answers
you need. I encourage you to look for that element in the committee
charges and consider getting involved! Ask any of the volunteer leaders
whom are listed in this guide about their committee journey and
how it has helped them grow professionally in the industry – PRICELESS!
Committees meet during Section conference, usually the day
before the actual conference begins. These meetings are open to everyone
who wants to attend, covering current topics, and developing
issues that you cannot afford to miss! This year, committee meetings
will be held on April 10 at the Spring Conference in Anaheim, CA and
CA-NV Section AWWA Resource Guide 2017
October 23 at the Fall Conference in Reno, NV. I hope you can take
advantage of these meetings to our mutual benefit. Also key contacts
for Section staff and Governing Board members are here for you.
Within the guide, you will also find information on the Section’s Mission
and governance structure. Please pay special attention to the organization
chart on page XX as it reflects the addition of several brand new
councils and committees. The new councils include Member Engagement
and Development and Philanthropy. The new committees include
Community Engineering Corps, Student Chapters, and Women’s
Networking. The organization chart also includes several other committees
which are being merged or re-organized under five divisions
to better meet the needs of our membership. Ultimately, there are
many new and exciting committee participation opportunities available
this year!
This Section has now been successfully serving the drinking water
industry for more than 96 years. We have had direct involvement in
meeting the many challenges and have enjoyed the benefits of our
many successes throughout the years. This guide provides us all with
a vital resource in the form of another tool of opportunity for continued
success. Take advantage of it. Use it often as a personal tool to
help guide your own professional success. AWWA has roughly 50,000
members worldwide. AWWA and the California - Nevada Section of
AWWA are two associations linked together by a common belief and
a common passion – Safe and Reliable Drinking Water. Our passion
is to support the drinking water professionals that provide water
to millions of people throughout California and Nevada. Now that’s
quite a network for you to access and get the answers and solutions
you need!
