ADVOCATING FOR WATER
The CA-NV Section, AWWA promotes tap
water’s vital place in public health, and advocates
on behalf of the utilities that ensure the
reliable delivery of safe drinking water. We
elevate the image of the drinking water profession
and the public’s trust in drinking water.
Certification
CA-NV AWWA Certification
department continues to
serve members with six
unique offerings. Operators
earn Treatment and
/ or Distribution certifications
(separate from
CA or NV state programs).
Water Use Efficiency Practitioners,
Water Quality Laboratory
Analysts and Cross-Connection
Control Specialists earn and renew their
certifications from us. Backflow Prevention
Assembly Testers represent the largest group
of certified professionals in the Section.
Our newest program is developing a certification
for Advanced Water Treatment Operators.
The Nevada Division of Environmental
Protection (NDEP) signed a
new contract for CA-NV
AWWA to perform
another four years of
proctoring services.
Our members serve
as proctors for
the NV state operator certification
examinations held across the state.
Continuous improvement steps
underway include a updates to our
governance and policy documents.
Keeping up with the pace of our industry
is one challenge. Rising to the top of
best practices within the credentialing
industry is another opportunity.
Assuring top level services to
our members and the water
community drives our continuous
improvement efforts.
Some of our programs offer
both computer based and
written examination options.
Moving the remaining programs
to embrace both models of delivery
will be completed in time. Incremental
improvements to the hands-on portion of the
Backflow examinations
are underway. All 2017
examination locations
are now self-certified to
be in compliance with
our certification committee
approved protocol.
Additional steps will
be taken to assure
a fair and legally
defensible certification
program
for all.
Praise for our many volunteers
is well deserved!
Those that serve on the
certification committees
share their time and
talent to assure high
quality exams are created/
maintained. Others serve as
proctors for the Backflow and NDEP examinations
across the CA-NV region. More volunteers
serve on other committees such as
the Government Affairs, Certification Board,
Executive Committee and Governing Board
that provide support and leadership for our
certification department.
