ROCKY MOUNTAIN VIEW
FROM THE
RMWEA President
Ceila Rethamel
ONE WATER. THOSE TWO
words can insight robust discus-sions
and is probably one of the
hotter topics in the industry right now (I
almost wrote “water and wastewater”).
A Google search of “One Water” returns
8,280,000,000 results in 0.63 seconds, a
clear indicator of how important and
prominent this concept has become.
In fact, in 2015 the Value of Water Cam-paign
was started by several organiza-tions
that were trying to impress how
vital water is. According to the Value
of Water website, “The Value of Water
Campaign educates and inspires the
nation about how water is essential,
invaluable, and in need of investment.
Spearheaded by top leaders in the
water industry, the Value of Water Cam-paign
is building public and political
will for investment in America’s water
infrastructure.”
It recently came out with a three-year
progress report highlighting the chang-es
that have already taken place. The
report is available on its website and
shows how using one voice can be a
powerful motivator for change.
If you work in our industry and need
help to get your community, your cli-ents,
10 | ROCKY MOUNTAIN WATER JULY 2019
or your congressional leaders to
understand the value of their water
infrastructure, then check out the Value
of Water Campaign website at www.
thevalueofwater.org. There are tools,
resources, and research-backed mes-sages
that are available to any water
provider. Read the progress report; then
decide how your company can be part
of this movement.
Radhika Fox, Chief Executive Officer
of the US Water Alliance, states in the
preface to the progress report, “We set
aside our individual policy positions or
differences of opinions, and spoke with
one voice on the value of water.”
If there is anything to gain in discus-sions
about One Water, it’s how we
work together to leverage our skills and
expertise to continue in building the
will to invest in our infrastructure that
brings life-sustaining services to our
nation.
