ROCKY MOUNTAIN WATER MAY 2017 | 9 ROCKY MOUNTAIN VIEW venue. One of the obvious questions from these two conferences is whether it makes sense for the Rocky Mountain Section to look for a third orga-nization to make the RMSAWWA/RMWEA Joint Annual Conference each September even stronger. My last 2016 trip was to Tijuana, Mexico. The Mexico Section of AWWA has about 100 mem-bers and participates in the The National Associ-ation of Water and Sanitation Utilities of Mexico (ANEAS) Conference. ANEAS is an umbrella organization of the national drinking water and sanitation utilities in Mexico. There were more than 5,000 attendees at the Tijuana conference. Although the language barrier made commu-nication difficult at times, it was a fascinating experience for me to attend a water conference outside the United States. This January, I had the opportunity to be the vis-iting officer for the AWWA Membership Summit held at AWWA Headquarters in south Denver. Because I started my AWWA volunteerism as a Membership Chair for the Rocky Mountain Section, I have had the good fortune to have attended a number of summits. I always find it a supportive environment where ideas and strate-gies to engage and grow membership are shared. In March, I went to Lafayette, Louisiana, as the AWWA leader for the Regional Meeting of Section Officers (RMSO). This is one of five RMSO meet-ings in 2017, and it provided a great opportunity for AWWA Section leaders to present and share ideas. Just recently, my last AWWA trip took me to Saratoga, New York, as the Visiting Officer for the New York Section AWWA Conference. It has been a true honor to serve on AWWA’s Board of Directors. The chance to meet and become friends with industry colleagues from around North American has been a rewarding experience. I would highly encourage members of the Rocky Mountain Section to consider serv-ing AWWA at the Association level. If you have any questions about volunteerism at the Section or the Association level, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com. I hope to see you in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for ACE17 in June. As your AWWA Director, I will be sending out information regarding our RMSAWWA event in Philadelphia. AWWA Director Kevin Bergschneider (far right) spent time with members of AWWA’s Mexico Section at The National Association of Water and Sanitation Utilities of Mexico Conference. Among those in attendance were Mexico Section Chair Ing. Francisco G. Cantu Ramos (far left) and Student Chapter President Andrea Jael Gomez Ortega (middle).
