Figure 1 illustrates the many regulatory authorities and entities for which graywater is a concern. Generally, gray-water use cannot impact any water rights and any required return flows. Graywater use for irrigation may increase con-sumptive use since the water will be used by plants for evapo-transpiration rather than directly returned to the aquifer or stream segment. Developed or imported water sources may be ideal for graywater use due to use flexibility under Colo-rado Water Law. Potential graywater users should contact their water provider or the Division of Water Resources to discuss water rights applicability for graywater use.
