(“Still the Source: Just New and Improved!”) is Utilities Manager for
the City of Davis, CA. He has worked in the water industry since
1985 with the Goleta Water District, City of Santa Barbara and City of
Davis and has been an AWWA Member since 1989. He has recently
been involved in regional resource planning and utility management
efforts, serving on the Section’s Chrome 6 Technical Advisory Group.
He is currently Chair of the CA-NV Section and serves on the Source Advisory Committee.
Penelope B. Grenoble
With this issue, Penelope B. Grenoble (“The Source Interview: Pat
Mulroy”) assumes the editorship of Source. Grenoble is an awardwining
journalist, essayist and author whose experience includes Westways
magazine and the Los Angeles Times. Recently she has specialized
in municipal infrastructure, including water and wastewater and alternative
6 SOURCE spring 2013
energy. As a communications strategist she has held consulting
positions in the water industry and for environmental organizations, including Las Virgenes
Municipal Water District and the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council.
She is a Fellow of the Society for Technical Communication and a USC Annenberg/California
Endowment Journalism Fellow.
Bruce Macler, PhD
(“Regulatory Update: Hexavalent Chromium in Drinking Water”)
has provided toxicology and risk assessment expertise on environmental
water issues for USEPA since 1989. He manages regulatory
work groups and an extensive research program on drinking water
treatment and is involved in public outreach and communication.
Bruce has authored more than 90 article and research publications on
biotechnology, microbial risk assessment and drinking water regulations. He is Chair-elect
of CA-NV AWWA and serves on the Source Advisory Committee.
J. Alan Roberson, P.E.
(“An Update on Inorganic Contaminants”) is Director of Federal Relations
at American Water Works Association and is the association’s
advocate for the drinking water utilities with the federal government.
He is responsible for implementing AWWA’s overall regulatory
program with all federal agencies such as USEPA, Department of
Homeland Security (DHS), Center for Disease Control, U.S. Geological
Survey and the U.S. Drug Administration. He and his technical staff work closely with
EPA staff on development of drinking water security policies and national drinking water
regulations and with DHS on the development of national water security policy.
