Orange County Water District Celebrates
80 Years. The Orange County Water District
celebrated its 80-year anniversary in June with
a reception in Sacramento with members of
its legislative delegation and recognition by
the California Assembly and Senate. The district
manages and protects the Orange County
Groundwater Basin, which supplies water to
more than 19 cities and water agencies serving
more than 2.4. million residents.
Ventura Water, Patagonia, iThentic
Announce Online Film Contest. For the
second year in a row Ventura Water will sponsor
Water: Take 1 Online Short Film Contest to recognize
recent short films under five minutes
that address the topic of water in any genre,
including documentary, drama, comedy, animation,
sci-fi or experimental. There is no fee
for submission and films will be posted online.
Ten finalists will be named and a jury-awarded
Grand Prize of $1,500 will be presented in the

Water Design-Build Council Offers
Complimentary Workshops on Design-
Build Methods/Procurement. The Water
Design-Build Council, a nonprofit organization
whose mission is to provide educational
materials related to design-build projects,
offers to bring their program onsite to utilities
at no charge. Typical session topics include:
Understanding the Differences in Design-Build
and CMAR (Construction Management-at-Risk)
Delivery Methods—When is DB the Best Choice?
Procurement Steps for Design-Build Projects,
which includes the new Guide for Progressive DB
and Risk, Liability and Contracting—Obtaining
the Best Value. Participants learn the benefits,
advantages, challenges and disadvantages of
the various project delivery methods and what
it takes to have a successful design-build or

Santa Fe Irrigation District Elects Board/
Welcomes New Members. Michael T. Hogan
has been elected to his third term as President of
the Santa Fe Irrigation District and John S. Ingalls
has been elected Vice-Chair. The Board also welcomed
new member Rancho Santa Fe resident
Greg Gruzdowich who represents Division 1,
and Solana Beach resident Alan Smerican who
represents Division 2. Gruzdowich will serve on
the District’s Water Resource Committee and
the Joint Facility Advisory Committee. Smerican
will serve on the District’s Administration and
Finance Committee and on the R.E. Badger
Water Facilities Financing Authority Board
of Directors.
