Retires from DDW
CINDY FORBES, WHO WAS NAMED
Deputy Director of the newly created
California Department of Drinking
Water in July 2014 with much fanfare,
has retired from that position, effective
December 17, 2016. Before her tenure at
DDW she was Southern California Field
Operations Branch Chief for the Drinking

Department of Public Health, responsible
for 14 DWP offices and oversight of
approximately 4,500 public drinking
water systems. Throughout her career,
Forbes has been an active member of
AWWA and is the recipient of the George
Warren Fuller Award for distinguished
service to the water supply industry. At
the national level, she served as Chair of
the Regulatory Agencies Workgroup, as
a member of the Water Utility Council
and a participant in the Technical
Action Group and the Climate Change
Technical Advisory Group. She also
served on CA-NV AWWA’s Government
Affairs Committee, the Water Treatment
Committee and the Awards Committee.

In Case You Missed It
THE STATE WATER RESOURCES CON-trol
Board has announced that although
October and November rains in northern
California provided an encouraging start
to the 2016-2017 water year (October 1,
2016-September 30, 2017), in January 2017 it
will be considering a staff proposal to extend
emergency conservation regulations. The
board noted that if dry conditions return
or if conservation levels slip significantly,
the proposal may include a return to state
mandated conservation targets. Since June
2015, 2.26 million acre-feet of water has been
saved as a result of Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2015
executive order for a 25 percent reduction in
urban water use. The board calculates the
savings as enough water to supply more
than one-quarter of the state’s 38 million
population for a year. S
